Hellenic Seismic Network (HL)

This webpage presents information and results of the monitoring seismicity service in Greece.

The Hellenic Seismic Network (HL) is operated by the Institute of Geodynamics of the National Observatory of Athens (NOA-IG).

The service to monitor seismicity in Greece and the adjacent region has started back in 1893 with the first seismic network operating 5 stations. In 2000, a large upgrade towards digital monitoring with broadband stations was initiated.

Today, the Hellenic Unified Seismic Network (HUSN), with NOA-IG as coordinator and the three University Seismic Networks (Athens, Thessaloniki and Patras), makes available at NOA-IG in near real time waveform data exchange with more than 150 stations.

The HL webpage provides on a 24/7 basis: simple seismicity inspection, automatic earthquake location based on SeisComP3, manual revision of earthquake locations performed by a seismologist analyst, moment tensor solutions from waveform inversion, seismic noise and station quality control automated assessment based on PQLX, continuous automated state of health monitoring of the stations operated or received at NOA-IG and detailed information and equipment history on NOA-IG HL Seismic Network stations.
